Tell me, does this sound familiar? You try to do something to improve yourself, but it’s hard, and you end up giving up quickly. If this has happened to you before, don’t worry; you are not alone. Most people aren’t born with insane mental strength. It’s okay though because the good news is that it can easily be learned and developed. Here are five ways to be mentally strong so you can overcome any obstacles.
Embrace Adversity: Ask Yourself “What If This Is A Gift?”
Look, I know it sucks, and it feels terrible when things don’t go your way, or when things are really difficult. The thing is, though, adversity will happen, and you’ll struggle at some point. There’s no avoiding it, so you might as well get comfortable with it. One of the best ways to embrace adversity is to ask yourself, “What if this is a gift?” No matter what you’re struggling through, you should ask yourself this question. This is so powerful because your mind will find ways to draw conclusions on how what you’re going through will benefit you. Instead of taking the adversity you’re facing as something that should be avoided, you’ll be thinking about how it will benefit you once you overcome it. It also stops you from drowning in self-pity, and you’ll instead be more focused on overcoming the obstacle. Let’s say you’re struggling to build the habit of going to a gym. What if this is a gift? This experience will teach you how to properly build good habits, which will be helpful in the future. As long as you ask yourself this question when you’re struggling, things will get better.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
There are often times where you think you have to do everything alone. You might think that this is your problem, so you shouldn’t bother anyone. But not asking for help will make things so much harder for you. If you’re struggling, it’ll be so helpful to get a mentor that can guide you. Even if you can’t find someone to mentor you, if you have someone to talk about what you’re going through, it will help lessen the burden. It sucks when you’re struggling, but when you talk to someone about what you’re experiencing, it helps you feel better. The other person might even be able to provide some insightful solutions. When you know that someone has your back, it’s easy to be mentally strong and be ready to face any challenge.
Define Your Moments
When you find yourself struggling with self-doubt, remembering what you accomplished will help you stay mentally strong. Let’s say you’re struggling to do something, and you start having negative thoughts that you’re lazy and can’t accomplish anything. In that situation, you can think about all the things you do and prove you aren’t lazy. You go to the gym regularly, and you try your best to cook your own meals, so that proves that you aren’t lazy because lazy people wouldn’t do those things. This is why defining your moments is powerful. Whenever you have any negative thought that goes against what you want to believe, you can think of moments that prove that thought wrong and get rid of it. It’s much easier to be mentally strong if you know how to deal with negative thoughts.
Exercise Your Mind
You Train Your Muscles to Gain Strength, and the Same Logic Applies to Your Mind. If You Haven’t Been Challenging Yourself, You Won’t Be Building Any Mental Strength. If You Haven’t Been Challenging Yourself, You Won’t Be Used to Adversity, and You Won’t Know How to Handle It Once You Do Face Any Adversity.
One of the Best Ways to Exercise Your Mind Is to Learn New Things or Read. A Lot of People Think Learning Stops Once They’re Out of School, but That Isn’t True. Learning Can Help You Earn More Money, and It Can Also Help You Build Mental Strength. Learning Something Isn’t Something Most People Would Like to Do After a Long Day of Work or School, but If You Do Build This Habit, It Will Benefit You in So Many Ways. You Will Learn How to Build a Habit, How to Deal with Adversity, and the Subject You Are Learning About.
You Don’t Need to Read to Learn New Things. Everyone Has Different Learning Styles, and You Can Watch Videos or Listen to an Audiobook if Those Options Work Better for You.
Spend Some Time Taking Care of Yourself
It Doesn’t Matter Who You Are or What You Do, You Need to Spend Some Time Relaxing or Else You’ll Burn out, and You Won’t Be Able to Care for Yourself or Those Around You. Self-Care Doesn’t Need to Be Complicated. It Can Be as Simple as Spending 10 Minutes a Day Meditating or Something Complex Like Having a Spa Day.
One of the Best Ways to Take Care of Yourself Is to Have a Hobby. Hobbies Are Great Because They Help Take Your Mind Off Whatever Is Bothering You. When You’re Focused on Your Hobby, Your Mind Won’t Be Thinking About Negative Things, or It Will Just Be Focused on the Task at Hand. You Might Even Find out That You’re Quite Good at Your Hobby. It’ll Help You Build Confidence. There’s Also a Chance You Can Turn That Hobby into a Side Hustle or Maybe Even a Career.
Spending Time to Relax Will Help You Recharge Your Energy so You Can Handle Any Challenge That Comes Your Way.
